Transportation Advisory

To: UCSC Community

From: Larry Pageler, Director, TAPS; Nader Oweis, Chief, University Police

This advisory is provided to remind members of the UCSC community of the possibility of traffic disruptions on or near campus on Thursday, March 1. Due to an announced protest, we are encouraging you to stay informed about any transportation issues that may arise; we also are encouraging you to add commute time or make other adjustments to your schedule.

In the event that either campus entrance is closed, commuters should anticipate changes to both SCMTD Metro and TAPS Campus Transit services to, from, and through the campus. Should the entrance gates to the campus be impacted, SCMTD bus routes serving UCSC will not enter campus for safety considerations; they will instead detour to temporary layover locations near the campus Main Entrance.
Where possible, limited Day Shuttle “perimeter” service will provide on-campus service between the West Remote parking lot, the central campus, and the Cookhouse parking lot. Additionally, conditions may arise which reduce or suspend operation of the Bike Shuttles, the Upper Campus shuttle route, and evening Night Owl service.

Disability Van Service users should contact TAPS in advance, if possible, to confirm or revise their trip schedules for Thursday, March 1.

Using the following, we will make every effort to share current transportation information that day:

• UCSC’s information hotline: 831-459-INFO.

• A web site that will provide information about transportation and other service problems that occur: ucsc.edu/advisory. (This site will also be accessible via the UCSC home page).

• The campus radio station: KZSC announcers will provide transportation updates as needed at 88.1 FM.

• Via the campus's Twitter account: twitter.com/ucsc.

Thank you very much for your attention to this matter.
