New York Times opinion and food columnist Mark Bittman quoted Julie Guthman, associate professor of community studies in a Sunday magazine column that considered the question "is junk food really cheaper?"

A Financial Times article on over-the-counter financial derivatives such as credit default swaps and their effect on European debt crises quoted from a paper by UCSC economics professors Michael Hutchinson and Joshua Aizenman and Yothin Jinjarak, a former UCSC graduate student now at the University of London.

Two recent UCSC grads were featured on a segment of the independent public radio show State of the Re:Union which features in-depth reports focused on the nation's cities. Callin Curry, a Democrat from Oakland, and Catherine Wahlgren, a Republican from Southern California, worked as interns this summer in Sacramento through the UC Center. The program was distributed to public radio stations around the country.

Stories about the newly renovated McHenry Library appeared in the San Jose Mercury News, Contra Costa Times, and on the front page of the Santa Cruz Sentinel.

India West and the Santa Cruz Sentinel both ran articles on the appearance of prominent Indian statesman Karan Singh as the speaker at UCSC’s 2011 Satyajit Ray Lecture.

 

The Santa Cruz Sentinel published an article about the Emmy Award nomination of Film and Digital Media lecturer Leo Chiang for his documentary "A Village Called Versailles."

The Santa Cruz Sentinel featured an article on Orin Martin, manager of the Alan Chadwick Garden of the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems. 

The Sentinel also covered the 17th annual Harvest Festival at the UCSC Farm.
