Dear Colleagues,
Most of you are aware that the family lost in the plane crash of last Thursday evening was the son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren of our friend and colleague Professor Emeritus and former Dean Ed Houghton. Ed's son and his family, Dede, Luke and Ryan, were vibrant members of the Santa Cruz community and David was also a member of our UC Santa Cruz community as he was a previous campus firefighter as well as past UCSC student. I know you join me in shared sympathy for the Houghton family loss.
The campus also lost another individual last week in the tragic death of Stephen Hull of the Planning and Budget office. We extend our deepest sympathies to the Hull family.
