Newsletter survey results

In September 2010, we sent a survey to newsletter readers asking for feedback on a number of topics in an effort to improve our monthly missive.

We received a broad set of answers from the total of 2,387 replies. We've compiled a few of the top-line take-aways here. We're listening, and while we can't make all the changes suggested, we plan to refine the newsletter going forward.

Thank you for participating in our survey! We hope you continue to enjoy the UCSC newsletter and engage with us. Write us at ucscnews@ucsc.edu.

Top-line take-aways from the UCSC newsletter survey:

- We receive too much email (from UCSC and the rest of the world), so it's hard to actually sit down and read the entire thing.

- Less is more. Give us a few links and then a place online to the read the rest.

- Brand the darn thing. We know it's an e-newsletter.

- Provide categories for different points of interest: A place for humanities news, PBSci news, etc.

- Promote something from each college.

- We'd like more about student life.

- Provide more events listings, both campus and regionally.

- Provide things to do in Santa Cruz, e.g., a community calendar.

- We'd like less "fluffy" PR stuff and more critical "truth hurts" stuff about UC, California, and the budget.

- Give us nostalgia: What founding faculty are doing, more alumni spotlights, "this day in history."

- Provide more information on campus (important numbers to call, FAQ, dates to bookmark).

- Make the newsletter a picture gallery.

- Provide more about staff--achievements, profiles, who's recently retired.

- Provide more student voice.
