William L. (Bill) Pickles died unexpectedly on the night of December 7, 2010. Bill retired from Lawrence Livermore National Lab a few years ago, after which he joined UCSC as a researcher. He started our program of remote sensing in Earth Sciences and Biology in 1997, and he worked with and supported over a dozen students since then. He had an amazing ability to see the potential of each student and his up-beat attitude was always inspirational. Bill helped to start the Center for Remote Sensing had been a researcher with the Center since then. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of his life was held on Saturday, December 18, at 2 pm at the Mavericks Lodge Event Center, 107 Broadway Ave., Half Moon Bay, CA 94019.
