Preview Day is the annual campus open house to connect prospective students and their families with UCSC faculty, staff and students. The event is an important recruitment activity and provides an opportunity for participants to learn about UCSC. A few of our key messages this year will focus on access to our outstanding faculty, the interdisciplinary approach to learning and high impact research, and our distinct residential college system. This year, we are offering one day specifically for prospective transfer students and one day that will cover freshman and transfer information.
Preview Days 2010; Saturday, October 16 and Saturday, October 23
Saturday, October 16 – Transfer-Specific Session
- Transfer-specific day: The session will cover key topics related to UCSC academic excellence, campus housing, transfer admissions requirements and student support services. The informational presentation will not cover freshman admissions.
Saturday, October 23 – Freshman and Transfer Session
- Freshman-specific day: The session will be primarily focused on freshman admissions requirements. Other key topics covered will include academic excellence, campus housing, and student support services. Transfer admissions requirements will be covered briefly.
Additional Information
- Registration will continue to be required for all participants.
- There will be three sessions between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. followed by a campus walking tour. Each session covers key topics surrounding undergraduate education, campus and student life, and admissions requirements and selection.
Preview Day expects to serve about 2,800 visitors over the two events, including students early in the college exploration process, high school seniors applying to college, parents and families, and transfer students. The events are being held in the Classroom Unit Building.
Due to ongoing fiscal constraints, Preview Day will not include a staffed resource fair; however, departments and campus units are encouraged to provide materials to be shared with guests over the two Saturdays. If your unit is interested in sharing publications, please send materials for approximately 1000 guests to the Office of Admissions, by Monday, October 4 (Mailstop: Cook House).
You are also welcome to open your offices on October 16 and/or October 23 in case prospective students and families would like to visit and ask questions. If you plan on opening your offices during those Saturdays, please contact Admissions Assistant Director Beatrice Atkinson-Myers at hfrogg@ucsc.edu, ext. 9-2352, and let her know what days and hours you plan on opening.
