It is my pleasure to announce the recipients of the Seventh Annual 2010 Chancellor's Achievement Awards for Diversity.
These awards honor and showcase campus faculty, staff, students, and programs that have made outstanding contributions to support diversity and inclusion at UCSC.
The 2010 recipients are:
. Roberto Manduchi, associate professor of Computer Engineering
. Enrico Ramirez-Ruiz, assistant professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics
. Charles McDowell, associate dean of undergraduate student affairs and professor of Computer Science
. Carlos Salas, wellness instructor, and Lizzie Yasser, wellness coordinator for staff and faculty, OPERS Wellness Center
. April Goral, career adviser, Career Center
. Alexander Whittlesey, undergraduate student and member of the Rainbow Theater and African American Theater Arts Troupe
. Kathryn Koumatos, undergraduate student and member of the Disability Alliance
. Leda Hernandez, undergraduate student and commissioner of diversity with the Student Union Assembly (SUA), and Matthew Palm, undergraduate student and commissioner of academic affairs with the SUA
. Global Brigades, student organization
Chancellor George Blumenthal will present each recipient with an engraved plaque during an awards luncheon.
Recipients were chosen from a large pool of nominations provided by the campus community. The selection committee included representatives from the following groups, as well as a SUA Commissioner of Diversity and a former award recipient:
