Alumnus Brent Constantz (Ph.D., Earth sciences '84), now a Stanford professor, was featured in Thomas Friedman's column in the New York Times about the research he did with the company Calera, which led to "green" cement.
Constantz had been studying how corals use CO2 to produce their calcium carbonate bones.
