It is my pleasure to update you on the search committee's progress. Four finalists have been identified, all of whom will be making two-day visits to campus in coming weeks.
The finalists are:
· Alison Galloway, vice provost of academic affairs and a professor of anthropology, UC Santa Cruz
· William Ladusaw, vice provost and dean of undergraduate education and a professor of linguistics, UC Santa Cruz
· Tyler Stovall, dean of the Undergraduate Division of the College of Letters and Science and a professor of history, UC Berkeley
· Stephen Thorsett, dean of the Division of Physical and Biological Sciences and a professor of astronomy and astrophysics, UC Santa Cruz
During their visits, each candidate will meet with Chancellor Blumenthal, as well as with principal officers, members of the Academic Senate, members of the Student Union Assembly (undergraduates) and Graduate Student Association, representatives of the Staff Advisory Board, and others.
In addition, on the second day of their visits, each finalist will participate in a 90-minute town hall meeting, addressing the topic "A vision for the future of UCSC: A strategy and leadership style that will get us there." The dates of those meetings, which will take place from 2-3:30 p.m. in the Stevenson Event Center, are as follows:
May 18: Alison Galloway
May 25: Stephen Thorsett
May 27: Tyler Stovall
June 2: William Ladusaw
All members of the campus community are encouraged to attend these public meetings, which will include question-and-answer sessions.
