To: UCSC Academic and Staff Employees

From: Pamela Peterson, Assistant Vice Chancellor, Academic Personnel

UCSC has started an on-campus recruitment process for a new Vice Provost and Dean-Division of Graduate Studies (VPD-GS). The VPD-GS, reporting to the Campus Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor, assumes major responsibility for enhancing graduate and postdoctoral education at UC Santa Cruz and provides academic, administrative, and strategic direction for the Graduate Division. As a member of the Campus Provost's team, the VPD-GS will be conversant with all aspects of the campus's growth, will represent and advocate all issues of graduate education in campus planning, and will take a leadership position in building the graduate programs. In coordination with the other senior members of the Campus Provost's office and the Divisional Deans, the VPD-GS will also participate in the campus governance.

We welcome applications from and nominations of qualified candidates from UCSC. We encourage you to speak with your colleagues on campus to help us develop a strong candidate pool. A copy of the job description can be found at http://www2.ucsc.edu/apo/academic_employment/jobs/T10-21VPDGrad.pdf

Screening of applications will begin April 13, 2010, and nominations are requested by March 31, 2010.
