American studies emerita professor Judy Yung co-authored a piece for the Los Angeles Times about the 100th anniverary of Angel Island Immigration Station in San Francisco. Yung was also quoted for a story about Angel Island in the San Francisco Chronicle and San Jose Mercury News, and was featured as a guest on KUSP radio.

The London Guardian newspaper published a feature article by B. Ruby Rich, chair of the Community Studies and Social Documentation Department, on the opening of the Sundance Film Festival. Rich wrote about the making of the docu-drama "Howl'' about Allen Ginsburg's 1955 poem and the obscenity trial that followed its publication.

Classical Voice reported that Music Department chair Fred Lieberman is calling attention to UCSC's Pacific Rim Festival scheduled for April 21-25, adding that associate music professor Hi Kyung Kim will be artistic director of the festival showcasing new music by composers from East Asia.
