UC Offers Travel Support for Affiliates Providing Emergency Relief in Haiti

To: UCSC Community

From: Saladin Sale, Director of Risk Services

In light of the recent devastating earthquake in Haiti, the University of California has arranged to extend important travel and security services to our students and employees who travel to Haiti on behalf of official humanitarian relief and support organizations, such as the Red Cross, various food banks and medical aide organizations. While much of this work may not be done directly as "University business", the UC System has a vested interest in the well being of our students and employees and desires to support the public service efforts of these individuals. This program is already available to those traveling directly on University business.

Therefore, if any University of California student or employee travels to Haiti on behalf of any legitimate relief or aid organization we ask that they register their travel and emergency contact information in Haiti at: https://www.uctrips-insurance.org/

Thereafter they will receive a follow up registration via e-mail for Worldcue/iJet, the University's travel information and international support center. By registering in this fashion, they will be sent emerging security alerts and have access to back up emergency medical evacuation services that may not be provided by their primary organization.

We encourage all UCSC Disaster Relief Volunteers to register their travel. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Jennifer Yeager, Property and Casualty Coordinator, at 831-459-5154 or Saladin Sale, Director of Risk Services, at 831-459-3261.
