Jin Zhang, professor of chemistry and biochemistry, has been elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to physics.
Zhang, a prominent researcher in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology, is particularly interested in the optical and electronic properties of nanomaterials, tiny structures with dimensions on the scale of atoms and molecules. His lab investigates potential applications of these novel materials in areas such as sensors, solar cells, hydrogen generation and storage, and cancer therapy.
The citation from the APS recognizes Zhang for "important fundamental understanding of photophysical properties and charge carrier dynamics of semiconductor and metal nanomaterials based on ultrafast studies."
Each year, no more than one-half of one percent of the society's membership is honored with election as a fellow.
