Impact on Transportation Services

Most transportation services will be curtailed or cancelled during the strike, possibly beginning as early as 6 a.m. Thursday morning.

  • Special Perimeter Day Shuttle service will be provided approximately every 10 minutes from 7:30 a.m. until approximately 6 p.m. The Day Loop shuttle route will not operate during the strike. The Day Core route will operate on its regular schedule, while the Upper Campus route may be modified to serve the Main Entrance area while the strike is under way. Supervisory staff will operate the Disability Van Service (DVS) as regularly scheduled.

  • The Westside and UCSC Inn bike shuttles will not operate during the strike.

  • SCMTD Metro transit service will not cross picket lines; buses will load and unload near the Bay/High intersection while pickets are present at the campus entrances.

  • TAPS will provide free Daily parking permits for commuters arriving at the East Remote lot with three or more occupants. Commuters arriving with only one or two occupants may purchase Daily parking at the East Remote for $4. Permits will be available at the East Remote from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Thursday. Regular parking requirements will remain in effect at all other campus parking lots.

  • Commuters who drive to campus are strongly encouraged to carpool or rideshare during the strike. A reduced demand for parking and "sharing a ride" will help transit-dependent commuters access the campus during this week. Consider using Zimride, a new Facebook-based application available to UCSC affiliates, to find or share a ride. Visit www.zimride.com and select the "UC Santa Cruz" network for more information.

  • Vanpool commuters are asked to coordinate among themselves to determine if their vanpool will operate during the strike, and to make carpooling arrangements if necessary.
