UCSC alumna Marti Noxon has won a Writers Guild of America award for best dramatic television series of 2008.
Noxon received her award as part of the writing team for the hit TV show Mad Men, which beat out competitors The Wire, Friday Night Lights, Lost, and Dexter.
The annual Writers Guild Awards honor the best film, television and videogame writers of the past year.
Noxon is a 1987 graduate of UC Santa Cruz with a degree in theater arts.
Best known as writer and executive producer for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Noxon's television credits include Grey's Anatomy, Brothers & Sisters, Point Pleasant, Prison Break, Still Life and Angel.
Noxon also co-wrote the 1999 film Just a Little Harmless Sex, starring Alison Eastwood, Jonathan Silverman, Rachel Hunter, and Lauren Hutton.
Mad Men has received rave reviews for its authenticity and style since it premiered in 2007, earning numerous awards--including three Golden Globes and six Emmys.
Set in New York City's Madison Avenue during the 1960s, the series tracks the lives of the ruthlessly competitive and ego-driven men and women of a fictional advertising agency--deftly illustrating the changing social attitudes of the country during that period.
