One of the most important leadership opportunities offered to UC students is an appointment to serve on the UC Board of Regents. If you are interested in a University leadership position that will provide you with a rewarding and challenging experience, I encourage you to apply for the prestigious position of UC Student Regent.
The Student Regent position is a two year commitment to serve as a member on the Board of Regents of the University of California. From the time of appointment as a Student Regent in July 2009, the appointee holds the title "Regent-designate" and is invited to participate in all Regental meetings as a non-voting member. Beginning July 1, 2010, the Student Regent will serve as a full voting member of the Board of Regents.
A candidate for the position of Student Regent must be an enrolled undergraduate, graduate, or professional student in good academic standing for the two-year duration. Once appointed, the Student Regent must resign from all other elected or appointed positions.
The Student Regent's University academic and parking fees are waived for the two year period. Additionally, a Student Regent will be reimbursed for expenses incurred for attending Regent Board and committee meetings.
All interested students may obtain an application at the Career Center, colleges, and various departments across campus, or download an application from:
http://www2.ucsc.edu/careers/jobs/regent.html. All applications are due no later than February 19, 2009.
I encourage you to seriously consider this unique opportunity and get an early start completing the application by researching the essay questions and preparing your resume during the Winter break. I invite you to learn more about the Student Regent position directly from current Student Regent, D'Artagnan Scorza and next year's Student Regent, Jesse Bernal by attending the "Meet the Student Regents" event. The event will be held Friday, January 30th at 12:00 pm in the Cervantes & Velasquez Conference Room, Bay Tree Building, 3rd Floor. There are also several orientations and workshops offered by the Career Center. For more information, please visit the following web site: http://www2.ucsc.edu/careers/jobs/regent.html
Let's make our campus proud and create history by ensuring that the next Student Regent is a UCSC student.
