It is my pleasure to announce that Professor Carolyn (Lyndy) Dean has agreed to provide interim leadership for the Arts Division. I have named Professor Dean to the position of Acting Dean of the Arts.
The current search for a new Dean of the Arts is in its final stages. I will be providing further information regarding the status of the search in the near future. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Arts Dean search committee for their continued work during this past year.
Professor Dean follows Professor Margaret Morse as Acting Dean of the Arts Division. Professor Morse has taken the position of Study Center Director for the Education Abroad Program (EAP) in Germany. I would like to thank Professor Morse for her diligent work as Acting Dean over the past academic year and wish her well in her new endeavor.
Professor Dean is a member of the Department of History of Art and Visual Culture. She received her B.A. in art and art history from the University of Puget Sound and M.A. and Ph.D. in art history from UCLA. Professor Dean's research interests include cultural histories of the native Americas, colonial, and post-colonial Latin America. Her current research concerns Inka (Inca) stonework in the pre-Hispanic and colonial Andes, as well as the modern imagination.
I am confident that Professor Dean will provide outstanding leadership for the division, and I look forward to working with her in this capacity.
