Update regarding help for people affected by fire

To: UCSC Community

From: Public Information Office (831/459-2495)

On Thursday (June 12), EVC Kliger sent a message to UCSC managers and supervisors, urging them to look for opportunities to help employees directly affected by the fire in Bonny Doon (See message).

Since then, the campus Housing Office has identified two contact phone numbers for employees displaced from housing by the fire:

  • Employees may contact the Faculty and Staff Housing Office for assistance at (831) 458-3506.

  • There may also be vacancies available at the University Inn & Conference Center, at 611 Ocean Street in Santa Cruz. The number there is (831) 426-7100.

In other fire-related news:

  • The UCSC crew and engine that had been dispatched to the fire in Bonny Doon were released from that duty earlier today. The crew and engine have returned to campus.

  • The campus has been asked to provide temporary housing on Friday night and possibly Saturday night for approximately 50 firefighters currently assigned to the Martin Fire in Bonny Doon. The preliminary plan is to house these firefighters in recently vacated units at the Crown-Merrill Apartments. This request will result in a number of fire engines from various agencies driving onto campus tonight, and possibly staying Saturday night as well. The engines would be stationed on campus between the hours of 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. This activity is not expected to impact scheduled commencement activities, which will occur as planned. If you have any questions, please contact the campus Fire Department at 459-3473.

Thank you.
