Students employees honored for service to the campus

More than 200 students and staff attended the student employee awards reception, held on the third floor of the Bay Tree Building.
Chancellor Blumenthal stayed around to personally congratulate students and pose for their photos.
Students (l-r) Quincy Chen, Lisa Evans, Lauren Thomas, and Chelsea Johnson-Long sang a cappella out on the patio.

A group of exceptional student employees was treated to a sumptuous buffet and entertained by student and staff musicians at a reception on May 20. The reception, held at the Bay Tree Conference Center, gave campus employers and administrators the opportunity to express their appreciation to the students and to give them cash awards ranging from $100 to $2,000.

Student employees perform vital functions in offices and departments throughout the campus, including the Academic Senate Office, Bay Tree Bookstore, Cowell Student Health Center, Educational Partnership Center, McHenry Library, and the colleges.

The Student Employee Recognition Awards Program, now in its 14th year, is sponsored by the Career Center. Three hundred student employees were honored this year. To be eligible for nomination for the awards program, students must show outstanding performance as employees and also maintain excellent academic standing.

Barbara Bedford, director of the Career Center, welcomed the group and got the event started. Felicia McGinty, vice chancellor of Student Affairs, introduced Chancellor George Blumenthal who offered his congratulations. Student speakers Konstanty Hordynski and Evelyn Serrano also addressed the gathering.
