As was communicated to the UCSC community last week, University of
California officials and representatives of the American Federation of
State, County and Municipal Employees union have jointly announced that they are returning to the bargaining table to continue negotiations for new labor contracts for the more than 20,000 UC patient care and service workers that AFSCME represents.
See joint statement about resumption of collective bargaining:

As indicated in the statement, the union will not be striking UC medical centers and campuses on June 4 and 5, as previously announced.
But non-strike activities, such as informational pickets, have begun on this campus and may take place on other UC campuses and medical centers this week.
Should non-strike activities make it necessary for the campus to
communicate information to you about transportation and other UCSC
operations, that information will be available via:
-- The campus's Emergency Communications hotline (459-INFO), which will provide recorded information if necessary
-- UCSC's home page (http://www.ucsc.edu), which will include a link to updated information on http://www.ucsc.edu/news_events/info_picket/afscme_06-08/
-- KZSC Radio (88.1 FM), which will broadcast operational information if necessary
Please stay informed, plan ahead, and anticipate possible transportation delays.
Thank you.
