UCSC in the News is a weekly column summarizing prominent media placements UCSC faculty, staff, and students have received.

The Washington Post tapped Veronica Tonay of psychology for comment for a story about the bitterness emerging among Democratic voters during the protracted primary contest between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

A San Jose Mercury News article about cell phones as medical tools featured a project led by computer engineer Sri Kurniawan and psychologist Dominic Massaro, with quotes from Kurniawan (see Currents story).

Physicist Anthony Aguirre is quoted on an article in Science News about research by him and others on parallel universes.

The Contra Costa Times noted the new puma study by ecologist Chris Wilmers and biologist Terrie Williams (see Currents story).

Terrie Williams was also featured in a Discovery News story about the impacts of climate change on animals in polar regions, such as the Weddell seals that Williams studies in Antarctica.

Politics professor Daniel Wirls was quoted by the Washington Times in an article about the Democratic primary.

Economist Ricard Gil weighed in on a recent price hike for movie tickets, saying the growing cost of corn contributes to pricey concessions at the multiplex. Gil's comments appeared in a Kansas City Star article that also ran in the Orlando Sentinel, Belleville News-Democrat, Chattanooga Times Free Press, Lewiston Morning Tribune, and other papers. The Associated Press also picked up the story.
