Jack Baskin School of Engineering Dean Search

To: UCSC Staff and Faculty

From: Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Kliger

As many of you are aware, the first round of interviews for a new Jack Baskin School of Engineering Dean did not result in a successful hire. The Search Committee will now re-evaluate the pool of candidates, including applications that were received after the initial review date. Depending on the outcome of that review, a second round of interviews will be held either this summer or in the fall.

Professor Michael Isaacson has graciously agreed to continue his service as Acting Dean until the completion of the search. Extension of his appointment will require approval by the UC Regents. I am grateful to Acting Dean Isaacson for his service and dedication to the Jack Baskin School of Engineering.

I would also like to thank the Search Committee for their diligence and commitment to the Jack Baskin School of Engineering Dean search. The committee and I are in agreement that we will take whatever time is needed to bring the right candidate to this important position. The committee welcomes your comments, feedback and suggestions; particularly related to whether another round of campus visits would be most productive in the summer or the fall. The search committee will keep you apprised of the status of the search.
