College Gymnastics Club is flying high

The College Gymnastics Club at UCSC participated in their third competition this year with impressive results. The men's team took first place and the women's took third.

The competition, held March 1 at UC Davis and called the "Aggie Cup," brought together teams from UC Berkeley, UC Davis, Oregon State, San Francisco City College, and UCSC. It was sanctioned by the National Association of Intercollegiate Gymnastics Clubs.

Joshua Smith, from College Nine class of 2011 majoring in bioengineering, scored first on high bar and parallel bars, second on pommel horse and floor. And he took first all around with the following scores: vault 9.9, floor 9.9, pommel 9.9, parallel bars 11.4, and high bar 9.4.

Ryan Brenner, from Oakes College class of 2010 majoring in engineering and business, earned fifth place in vault and parallel bars.

Kenneth Garges, a UCSC staff member who directs Computing, Core Technologies in ITS, earned fifth place on pommel horse.

Allison Valladao, from College Nine class of 2011 and the only woman from UCSC competing, earned third place all around. Her scores were 8.4 on vault, 8.1 on beam (fourth place), and 7.8 on floor.
