Ray Marcus, who worked on campus from 1983 until his retirement in 1993, died February 29.
Ray took pride in his work as the property manager in Materiel Management, now known as University Business Services, where he had oversight for receiving, surplus operations, and equipment management.
Ray's colleagues remember him as the most ethical person they ever worked with, according to Lisa Rose, director of University Business Services. He treated his operation as if it were his own business.
After his retirement from the university, Ray volunteered thousands of hours with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's San Lorenzo Valley Office, receiving multiple awards for his contributions. Giving of himself to help others was an integral part of Ray's values, said Rose.
