Trees planted as McHenry Library addition nears completion

Landscape contractors prepare soil and plant trees at the site of the new reading lawn and garden at the McHenry Library addition and renovation project.

Tree planting began this month around the new reading lawn and garden at McHenry Library as construction of the addition nears completion. Nearly 30 new coast redwoods, coast live oaks, and flowering cherries will be planted.

The contents of the existing McHenry Library will be moved (see campus memo) into the addition over spring break so the existing building can be renovated with seismic upgrades and improvements, a process that will take approximately 18 months.

McHenry Library will be closed from Friday, March 21, until Monday, March 31, in order to carry out the move. When the library reopens, new temporary access will be available to the addition.

Tours and a celebration are planned for sometime in mid-April. More information will be distributed once the date is set.

The McHenry Library expansion and renovation project is expected to be finished in late 2009 or early 2010.
