Frank C. Child, a professor of economics who served as dean of the UCSC Division of Social Sciences from 1983 until 1987, has died of congestive heart failure. He was 86.
Child died January 25 in Santa Cruz, where he lived since retiring from the university in 1989.
Child joined the Santa Cruz campus from UC Davis, where he was chair of the Economics Department from 1963 to 1980; he joined the Davis faculty in 1962. In Davis, Child also helped establish the city's signature bikeway system--the nation's first such network of pathways.
