UCSC Recreation is offering the campus community a trip to the Kuumbwa Jazz Center to see the Kat Parra Latin/World Jazz Ensemble on Thursday evening, February 7.
Kat Parra easily crosses over from classic jazz to steamy Latin jazz without missing a beat. The essence of Kat's musical journey is her ability to combine a mixture of different international styles to create a unique sound that is all her own.
Kat's focus, along with classic jazz standards, is on the creation of new sounds around Spanish Sephardic music, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Peruvian, South American folklore, and a little bit of Brazil tossed in for extra flavor.
The cost is $15, which includes ticket, transportation from UCSC, and one beverage. The group will depart the Recreation Office porch of the East Field House at 6:15 p.m. To sign up, go to www.ucscrecreation.com.
Kuumbwa Jazz Center is an internationally recognized nonprofit jazz venue in downtown Santa Cruz.
