Merrill College will host a film screening of the documentary Crossing the Line: Multiracial Comedians, with producer Darby LiPo Price on Thursday, February 7.
The film screening with question-and-answer period will take place from 7-9 p.m. in the Merrill College Cultural Center, preceded by a reception for Price from 5:30-6:45 p.m. in the Merrill Baobab Lounge.
Crossing the Line, produced by Teja Arboleda and Darby LiPo Price, exposes the roles of multiracial comedians as mediators in the controversies of race in our society. The film features perspectives from American multiracial comedians Sunda Croonquist (Swedish/African), Kate Rigg (Indonesian/Australian/Canadian/Nuyorasian), James Connolly (Mexican/Irish), Mark Yaffee (Navajo/Mexican/Scots-Irish), as well as insight from internationally acclaimed performer Rain Pryor (daughter of comedian Richard Pryor) and Randall Kennedy (author and Harvard Law professor).

About Darby LiPo Price
Darby LiPo Price holds a Ph.D. in ethnic studies from the University of California, Berkeley. His dissertation, "Mixed Laughter: Mediating Multiracial Identities in American Ethnic Comedy," was the basis for the film Crossing the Line. His published work consists of essays about multiracial comedians in Amerasia Journal, The American Indian Culture and Research Journal, Critical Mass: A Journal of Asian American Cultural Criticism, and Interrace. He currently teaches at Samuel Merritt College in Oakland.
