UCSC senior Amara Reddick has been named a Women's Collegiate All-American for the 2006-07 academic year by USA Rugby.

Reddick, who made the second team, was chosen out of nearly 10,000 women playing college rugby at all levels, according to a press release issued by USA Rugby.

Reddick has been a central figure in the rise to prominence of the UCSC women's rugby team, according to the team's coach, Alex McKenzie. "Her strong work ethic and astonishing athletic ability helped lead the charge that helped the Slugs win a Division II National Championship in 2006 and a trip to the championship game in 2007," said McKenzie.

Her sister, Rachel Reddick, has also been named a 2006-07 All-American in women's rugby at CSU Chico.

Each of the All-Americans will receive a letter and a certificate from USA Rugby, and their respective schools' club sports director will also receive a letter and certificate of recognition.

This year Amara Reddick is the team captain. Practices have begun and the season opens against Santa Clara on February 2 at UCSC.
