Members of the campus community looking for commuting alternatives can now take advantage of several vanpool openings.
Vanpools with space for passengers and drivers are:
. Aptos route, which arrives on campus at 8 a.m. and leaves at 5 p.m.
. Soquel route, work shift 8 a.m./5 p.m.
. Watsonville route, work shift 7:30 a.m./4:30 p.m. (currently serving off campus)
. Watsonville route, work shift 7:30 a.m./4 p.m.
. Monterey route, work shift 7 a.m./4 p.m.
Routes with space just for drivers only:
. San Jose route, work shift 8 a.m./5 p.m.
. San Jose route, work shift 8:30 a.m./5:30 p.m.
. San Lorenzo Valley route, work shift 8 a.m./5 p.m.
Volunteer drivers receive a reduction in their monthly fees. New 07-08 vanpool monthly rates are $31 for Live Oak, Soquel, and Aptos; $34 for San Lorenzo Valley and Watsonville; $40 for San Jose; and $54 for Monterey.
Vanpool riders take advantage of the program in different ways. While some take the vanpool daily, others ride the minimum required three days a week and group their errands and meetings for the days they bring a car to campus. More than 200 faculty, staff, and students participate in the program.
