We have had a number of personnel changes within Business and Administrative Services (BAS) management over the past few months, and I'd like to take this opportunity to announce these changes to the campus.
* After serving the campus as Assistant Fire Chief for three years (with 30 years of total fire service experience), Jeff Trapp is now the new Campus Fire Chief. This promotion officially took place on July 1, following the retirement of former Fire Chief Chuck Hernandez. In addition to a new chief, Fire Services has a new Campus Fire Marshall (Rick Rodewald) and a new Campus Emergency Planner (Chris Gaylord), both of whom joined the department in 2006-07.
* Larry Pageler is now the Director of Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS), following the retirement of former Director Wes Scott on July 1. Larry has worked for UCSC in a variety of roles since 1983, including TAPS Director from 1990 through 1998.
* Lisa Akeson has become the director for the new Real Estate Office (REO), located at 2300 Delaware. The REO oversees the management of real property and other UCSC assets in coordination with all campus units that engage in real property transactions. REO activities include development and property management for the Monterey Bay Education and Technology Center (MBEST), the Marine Science Campus (MSC), and the Silicon Valley Center (SVC).
* Marie Logan has accepted the position of Director, Office of Planning and Analysis (OPA); she will begin her new job on July 30. Currently an Assistant Dean in the Social Sciences Division, Marie will fill the vacancy left by Mary Sweeley Castro, who moved to University Relations last March.
I hope you'll join me in wishing these individuals the best of luck in their new positions. I look forward to working with them, and have no doubt that they will continue to serve BAS and the campus well.
