Search for Vice Chancellor, Information Technology

To: Campus Community

From: David Kliger, Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor

Vice Provost of Information Technology Services Larry Merkley has announced his retirement, effective February 2008. Vice Provost Merkley has served the UCSC community admirably in his current position since 2003, and prior to that as a consultant. We hope you will join us in thanking Vice Provost Merkley for his dedication; further information regarding a formal acknowledgement and celebration of his service will be forthcoming.

In order to effect a smooth transition, I have authorized a national search for a Vice Chancellor for Information Technology. A search committee has been formed; the committee will be assisted by the professional search firm of Heidrick & Struggles.

The search is being widely advertised, and we welcome applications from and nominations of qualified candidates from both on and off campus. We encourage you to speak with your colleagues on campus and in the UC system and beyond to help us develop a strong candidate pool. If you, or others you know, are interested in applying, application materials should be submitted as described in the position announcement. Initial screening of applications will begin in mid- to late-August. This position is open until filled.

The position of Vice Chancellor for Information Technology is critically important to the future of the UCSC campus. It is in all of our interests to identify the best candidates for this position. Please contact any of the search committee members for additional information or to discuss potential nominations. We encourage your active involvement in this recruitment.
