Rec Department offers class in survival skills

Survival Skills

Class 1: Saturday, May 19, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Class 2: Sunday, May 20, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In this one-day class, instructor Robin Bliss-Wagner will teach the basic skills of survival that have been passed down for countless generations through native cultures, including building shelters, locating and purifying water, gathering and sampling some basic survival foods, and the basics of survival hunting. The class will also cover any number of other skills, including cordage making, stalking, and camouflage, as time permits. Discover a new sense of freedom as you learn that all your needs are provided for in nature. Bring lunch, water, and a pocket knife (preferably one that locks into position). Be prepared for poison oak and ticks, and wear a long-sleeve shirt and pants. Sign up in advance at www.ucscrecreation.com. The cost is $25.
