From George Blumenthal, UC Santa Cruz Acting Chancellor:
The Santa Cruz community is understandably concerned about issues related to UCSC growth. Unfortunately these ballot measures will only serve to inhibit the ability of the City and the University to work together.
The University continues to believe that these measures were placed on the ballot in violation of the California Environmental Quality Act and that they breach an existing contract between the City and the University of California.
While questions of the measures' legality may ultimately be decided by the courts, I personally remain committed to continuing dialogue with the City aimed at resolving our differences. I believe the campus and the community are stronger because of our symbiotic relationship and that serious discussions between the City and University could produce an agreement that is beneficial for all of us.
