Class of 2005's commencement exercises begin Friday, June 10

Commencement exercises at UC Santa Cruz will be held this year on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, June 10-12. A total of 2,346 students are candidates for bachelor of arts, music, or science degrees. Also this spring, 215 students are eligible to receive master of arts or science degrees (of these students, 112 will complete UCSC's Department of Education master's program in late summer), and 61 students are candidates for doctorates. A small number of students will receive graduate certificates.

A number of celebrations, beginning a day earlier, are also planned.
UCSC's ten colleges will hold commencement exercises; the Graduate Division and Jack Baskin School of Engineering will also host commencement exercises. In addition, a number of celebrations, beginning June 9, are planned to honor graduates.

(In the two prior quarters of the current academic year, many other UCSC students earned undergraduate or graduate degrees: 483 undergraduates earned bachelor's degrees at the end of the fall or winter quarters, 58 students earned master's degrees, and 38 students earned Ph.D.s. The number of previously earned bachelor's degrees is expected to increase as additional winter-quarter records are processed. An undetermined number of other UCSC students will also complete their work toward degrees this summer, in the academic year's fourth quarter.)
