Plan for Summer this Winter

UC Santa Cruz Summer Session offers courses spanning various disciplines each summer. The various sessions run from June 24 through August 30 and attract a diverse community of continuing students, visitors, and high school students. Explore the available summer courses at summer.ucsc.edu now and prepare for open enrollment starting on May 1.

There are hundreds of in-person and online courses available, from foundational courses in math and science, including the popular Calculus and Organic Chemistry series, to hands-on classes like  Improvisation, Creative Writing, and Metal Fabrication. Students can build their resumes with opportunities like service learning and internships.

Taking just one summer session course can put students on track to graduate on time or leave room in their schedule for a valuable internship or study abroad experience. Summer benefits continue to make the optional fourth quarter an excellent time for students to earn credit toward their degrees and explore unique learning opportunities.

“Whether students use classes to graduate in three years, double major, or complete a prerequisite in just five weeks, there are so many options,” said Jennifer Gallacher, interim director of Summer Session. “Our in-person classes allow students to focus on fewer courses and be part of the unique summer community, or we have a range of online synchronous and asynchronous courses that still allow them to meet their academic goals from anywhere.”

Summer is the only time anyone can take classes at UC Santa Cruz. On-campus housing is available.
