Search launches for UC Santa Cruz’s AVC for Planning, Design and Construction

To: UC Santa Cruz Campus Community

From: Edward D. Reiskin, vice chancellor for finance, operations, and administration

UC Santa Cruz is launching a national search for the newly created position of associate vice chancellor for planning, design and construction. The department plays a critical role in supporting the academic vision by ensuring that projects contribute to and support campus life while remaining sensitive to the surrounding natural landscape.

Elida Erickson, assistant vice chancellor for strategic initiatives and sustainability, will chair the search committee. We have retained the executive search firm Helbling to assist in this recruitment. We aim to complete the search by January 2024.

The associate vice chancellor for planning, design and construction reports to the vice chancellor for finance, operations, and administration and is responsible for leading the campus’ growing capital program.  Responsibilities will include development and implementation of an annual capital planning and budgeting process, management of existing and development of new capital projects - including stakeholder-informed design, and leadership and support for programs such as the new campus decarbonization and electrification initiative.

I am grateful to Tony Cobb, associate vice chancellor for physical planning, development and operations, who has covered the work of what are now two positions. He will continue his work as AVC of Facilities Management. Both of these AVC positions will reside in Physical Planning, Design, and Operations.

A description of the position and additional information can be found on the Helbling recruitment webpage. The first review date will be Nov. 30, 2023.
