Campuswide listening session about on-campus child care

To: UC Santa Cruz Community

From: Sarah Latham Vice Chancellor, Business and Administrative Services; Lori Kletzer Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor

The Student Housing West project, approved in March by the UC Board of Regents, includes a child care center in which we intend to offer expanded child care services to meet the growing and evolving needs of our community of student and employee parents. Over the years, our campus has undertaken various analyses to explore different operating models and programming around child care services. Providing affordable, stable, and robust child care is critical for our students, faculty, and staff.

Next week, we are offering another opportunity to learn about the needs and concerns from our community about child care and the current expansion of our services with Bright Horizons. We will hold a facilitated listening session on Monday, May 24, 2021, from 12 - 1 p.m. You can register online.

Campus leadership will provide a brief opening presentation and then the floor will open for community members so that they may share their child care related needs and concerns.

We are excited about the possibility of expanding quality child care options to more members of our campus community and look forward to learning more about the community’s needs as we move forward.
