UCSC in the News

Julie Guthman, associate professor of community studies, participated in a New York Times feature "Room for Debate" on the subject of "Should You Trust Calorie Counts." "Enough with the Calorie Counting," Guthman wrote, pointing to studies that suggest endrocine-disrupting chemicals have more of an effect on obesity than calories.

The New York Times quoted Susanne Jonas, retired lecturer in Latino and Latin American Studies, in an obituary for Francisco Villagrán Kramer, an internationally known legal scholar who served as vice president of Guatemala and later resigned and sought exile in the United States.

The Santa Cruz Sentinel wrote a feature article on Tim Galarneau, an alumnus and the food systems working group coordinator at the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems, on the occasion of Galarneau winning the 2011 UC Sustainability Champion Award.

The Sentinel also wrote about the Apprenticeship in Ecological Horticulture in a page one article in light of an increase in fees for the program.
