Crabs can compromise salt marsh resilience

Coastal marshes are vulnerable to erosion caused by rising seas, pounding waves, and tidal flows. Now add crabs to the list of threats. According to a new study by UC Santa Cruz researcher Kathryn Beheshti, superabundant crabs burrow into tidal creek banks in Elkhorn Slough, weakening them.
