Many nonprofits across Santa Cruz County have roots that trace back to UC Santa Cruz alumni, who played pivotal roles in launching and shaping their missions. Grey Bears was founded by late UC Santa Cruz alumna Kristina Mailliard (Cowell ’74) in 1973.

Notice of new policy: Interim Major Events
The Division of Finance, Operations, and Administration has launched a new Interim Major Events policy—effective for all events on or after September 1, 2025—that expands and replaces the previous student-focused policy to better coordinate large campus gatherings through a centralized planning website, event calendar, and updated approval process.
