Solitary Garden is a public art project at UC Santa Cruz created to protest solitary confinement and mass incarceration created by New Orleans-based artist Jackie Sumell.
UC Santa Cruz’s Visualizing Abolition, the nation’s most ambitious and sustained art and prison abolition initiative, received a nearly $2 million grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
