The UCSC Alumni Council is a group of dedicated leaders who support UC Santa Cruz and help guide the university into the future. Alumni Councilors serve as the board of the UC Santa Cruz Alumni Association. They collaborate with UCSC staff to support student success, award annual scholarships, advise campus leadership on important issues, and connect over 140,000 alumni through enriching programs.

STUDENT SUCCESS INITIATIVE
Zahirah Suhaimi (Ph.D. was awarded the Dr. Midori Arima Scholarship in Anthropology in 2022.

Anthropology doctoral candidate Zahirah Suhaimi received the Dr. Midori Arima Scholarship in Anthropology in 2022, allowing her to focus on completing her dissertation by June 2023.

 
UC Santa Cruz is dedicated to working to create a more inclusive, equitable, and competitive regional economy.

A collaborative of educational leaders from Santa Cruz to Ventura was awarded a $250,000 planning grant to streamline pathways from high school to postsecondary education and into the workforce.

ALUMNI UPDATES
Mario Galdamez (Merrill ’06, politics and Latin American & Latino Studies) is serving his second year on the Alumni Council.

Steve Wagner, cofounder of national brewing company Stone Brewing and alumnus of UC Santa Cruz, is a long-standing supporter of UCSC’s Humanities Institute, the Literature Department, and affiliated graduate students.

Alumnus Steve Wagner, cofounder of Stone Brewing, studied literature at UCSC and says he was transformed by his time as a student. Now he supports graduate student summer research fellowships in The Humanities Institute.

Anushka Ratnayake (College Nine ’04, literature) learned about agricultural microfinancing and launched a nonprofit in West Africa, taking the skills from her Santa Cruz education to farms across Africa.
