Rebecca Hernandez is the university’s first community archivist.

UCSC recently hosted its first Land Acknowledgment event, recognizing the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band and its place in the local history of the land and the creation of the campus.

Computational media Ph.D. student Kevin Weatherwax's research is supported through the Piatt Fellowship, a scholarship for doctoral students from Santa Cruz County.

Louie Campos (Oakes ’73, community studies)

Pioneer alumnus Louie Campos related to Oakes College’s commitment to intellectual, academic, and personal inquiry rooted in the possibility of affecting positive social and political change—which he says still holds true with him.

UCSC alumna Kim Bernice Nguyen has announced a run for Congress.

A daughter of a Vietnamese refugee and a Mexican immigrant, Kim Bernice Nguyen advocates for her community as the youngest person to hold a seat on the Garden Grove City Council. In January, Nguyen announced her run for Congress.
