  • Staying connected: UCSC launches iPhone app ‘update’

    UC Santa Cruz has ‘updated’ its free iPhone app to enable smartphone users to access the campus’s online directory and check on the availability of library holdings. The app also includes redesigned emergency features. Two alumni developers have also worked with the campus on a first-generation Android version of the campus app.

  • Welcoming new students for fall 2011

    UC Santa Cruz students are scheduled to begin moving into university housing on Wednesday, September 14, in anticipation of the 2011-12 school year. The first day of instruction in the fall quarter is Thursday, September 22. The fall-quarter “move-in” for students living on campus is scheduled to continue through Sunday, September 21.

    Carlos Noreña, a popular UCSC faculty member for more than 25 years, died on July 4 at the age of 85.     In Memoriam: George Malloch

    George Malloch Jr., who served as a trustee of the UC Santa Cruz Foundation from 1990 to 2002, died on May 21 in Germany. A resident of Brookdale in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Mr. Malloch was president of the foundation from 1997-1999.

  • In Memoriam—William Shipley

    William Shipley, one of the first faculty hired at UC Santa Cruz, died January 20. He came to UCSC in 1966 to found the linguistics program, which he led as chair until 1980.
