Dear UCSC graduate and undergraduate students,

The UC Office of the President (UCOP) has approved restoring access to Canvas for UCSC. Please keep in mind that this remains a fluid situation. While we are back online now, access may be temporarily suspended again over the next several days if additional security measures are required. This is part of the ongoing, nationwide work to ensure the platform is fully secure.

Next steps

We recommend that you take the following precautionary steps:

  1. Review and save your grades.
  2. Review your files and download what you need for your courses to your computer.
  3. If using a device that does not belong to you, use an Incognito window to access Canvas. When you’re done, sign out of all UCSC resources, clear the browser cache, and fully quit the browser.

Note that third-party tools like YuJa, Zoom and some eTextbooks are currently being reconnected; if you are prompted to reauthorize these or other third-party apps, please do so.

Security Reminder

Now that access is restored, please remain vigilant against suspicious or unexpected messages. As a reminder, the university will never ask you for your password, Social Security number, or financial information.

We sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding, and flexibility during this nationwide Canvas security incident and are here to support you. If you have any questions, please reach out to ITS by opening an online support ticket or calling 831-459-4357.
