New UCPath feature: Emergency contact for immigration enforcement workplace detention or arrest

UCPath has introduced a new emergency contact category specifically for immigration enforcement detention or arrests that occur at work.

By

University of California, Santa Cruz is committed to ensuring clear communication and employee support during unexpected situations. UCPath has introduced a new emergency contact category specifically for immigration enforcement detention or arrests that occur at work. Additionally, all employees are strongly encouraged to make sure that they have emergency contacts listed and that the information is up to date.

What’s New?

Employees now have the option to designate a specific contact person under the relationship type: “Contact if Detained/Arrested.” This individual will be the point of contact in the event the employee is detained or arrested while at work due to an immigration enforcement action. This person can be the same as the primary emergency contact or a different individual.

Action required for faculty, staff, and student employees

We strongly encourage all employees to log in to UCPath to review and update their emergency contact information, which can be found in the “Personal Information” section.

  • Review: Check your current primary and secondary contacts (see job aid).
  • Update: If you wish to utilize this new option, add or update a contact and select the “Contact if Detained/Arrested” relationship type.

Information for managers and supervisors

If you manage or supervise staff, please be aware of this new protocol. In the event an employee is detained or arrested at work, managers are now required to:

  1. Access UCPath to identify the employee’s designated contact.
  2. Notify the individual listed under the “Contact if Detained/Arrested” category promptly.

Please review the Immigration Enforcement Action Procedures for additional information regarding your role and responsibilities.
