Hello, UC Santa Cruz Staff!
Are you interested in serving our campus community and giving back to your fellow staff members? Consider joining the UCSC Staff Advisory Board (SAB)!
Timeline
For 2026, the election process will run as follows:
- Feb. 24–March 27, 2026 -Self-nomination Window (Self-Nomination Form)
- March 30–April 10, 2026 – Voting period (Staff Only)
- Week of April 13 – Election results published to the SAB website
- May 11, 2026 – New SAB members-elect introduced at the Staff Appreciation Picnic
Purpose
The purpose of the SAB is to support the welfare and diversity of the UC Santa Cruz staff. The board does this by serving in an advisory capacity to our campus leadership and other campus parties or organizations. Our advocacy promotes better communication and relations among the staff and our larger campus community. Some tangible examples of this advocacy are:
- Facilitating the campus forums with the chancellor and other campus leadership so the voice of the staff is heard
- Conducting the Staff Experience Survey that collects responses about the staff experience
- Engaging in a year-round conversation with the Office of the Chancellor about staff concerns
- Hosting the Staff Appreciation Picnic, the Outstanding Staff Award, and Staff Milestone event, and community sports nights
- Facilitating the Staff Mentorship Program
- Serving on campuswide committees, such as the Employee Housing Workgroup, Student Fee Advisory Committee, and all campus leadership search committees
- Stewarding the Holiday Food & Fund Drive
- Being a campus delegate to the Council of UC Staff Assemblies (CUCSA)
There’s so much more, too! What’s something you really want to see happen?
Eligibility
We will verify that each nominee meets the eligibility criteria, according to the SAB bylaws. To be eligible for board membership, nominees must:
- Be policy governed (non-represented)
- Either be past probation in a career/partial-year career appointment or be in a contract appointment with at least six months served in that contract.
Contracted staff employees or other employees for whom serving a full term is not possible may serve a shorter term. Their availability will be mentioned in their candidate summary during elections.
Since there is a time commitment to serving on the SAB (highly variable from week to week depending on meetings and events, averaging out to 1–3 hours per week), it is strongly recommended that nominees have the full support of their supervisor.
Thank you for considering serving on the Staff Advisory Board! If you have any questions about this process or SAB service in general, please email ucscSAB@ucsc.edu.
All the best to you,
Your Staff Advisory Board
