Welcome back, Slugs! As we head into the fall quarter, TAPS is here for all your transportation needs. As a reminder, the first two to three weeks of the quarter can be hectic while everyone acclimates to new routines and schedules, so we encourage you to leave extra time to get to your classes, jobs, and appointments.

Here are some transportation updates and new initiatives this quarter to help you get around:

Live Tracking Campus Shuttles
You can now track all UCSC Shuttles LIVE in the flexigo app. Download the app today for iOS or Android, or use the web portal to start tracking. To track buses in the app:

  • Log in using your UCSC email address and sign in using your CruzID and Gold Password.
  • Select the “Circulator Services” module to see Loop, Upper Campus, Upper Campus Limited, Night Upper Campus, and Bike Shuttles.
  • Choose your stop on the map to see which shuttles are arriving next.

Westside Connector
To provide supplemental service to the Coastal Science Campus more effectively, the Westside Connector can now be booked in advance using the flexigo app. Trips now depart from Quarry Plaza instead of the Barn Theater. Check the website for schedules and to learn how to book your trips.

Go Slug Rewards
Log your sustainable trips this year to earn extra rewards from UCSC! Log in to Cruz 511 with your UCSC email and sign up under the UCSC network to start earning points. You can earn up to a total of $85 in Iveta, Flexidollars, Boardwalk gift cards, and more! Make sure you’re also practicing safety while using transit, biking, or even walking on campus, and you might get a surprise!

Sustainable Transportation Fair
Transportation is the single biggest source of air pollution in California. On California Clean Air Day and the National Week without Driving, visit the first-ever UCSC Sustainable Transportation Fair to learn how you can reduce your carbon footprint with your travel choices. Take the Clean Air Day pledge to help reduce carbon emissions. See you at Quarry Plaza on October 1st from 11am-2pm!

Biketoberfest
Starting October 1, log your bike rides for Biketoberfest for a chance to win prizes! Track your rides in Cruz511 for a chance to win a new bike rack for the partner colleges with the most rides, and one lucky participant will be randomly selected to win a brand-new e-bike! You can also track your rides in the Love to Ride platform for a chance at even more prizes. Pro tip: The Strava app can link to both Cruz511 and Love to Ride, so you can automatically log your trips in both places!

Fall Travel Survey
Mark your calendars for November 3 to help TAPS continue evaluating and improving transportation on campus. This year, we will divide our annual travel survey into two parts. The first part this fall will focus on how you use different transportation services on and off campus.

Zipcar: Free Memberships & Students with Drive Competition
Sign up for Zipcar and get your first year’s membership fee waived! All UCSC students and employees are eligible for this promotion through November 15, so sign up today.

Do you know a student organization that is making a positive impact? Of course you do, this is UCSC! Zipcar’s Students with Drive gives cash grants to student groups making a positive impact. Have your student groups enter for a chance to win up to $10K—just by sharing their story.

R Permits Eligible in Barn Theater Lot 122
As a proactive measure to help alleviate impacted parking in the East and West Remote Lots at the beginning of the quarter, R Permits will temporarily be valid in Barn Theater Lot 122.
