Distinguished Lecturer To Discuss The Geology Of The Tibetan Plateau In A Lecture At UCSC

SANTA CRUZ, CA–The geologic origins of one of the most spectacular landscapes in the world, the Tibetan plateau, is the focus of a free public lecture at the University of California, Santa Cruz. B. Clark Burchfiel, Shlumberger Professor of Geology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA, will present the lecture at a special Earth Sciences Department seminar on Thursday, May 4, at 4 p.m. in the Earth and Marine Sciences Building, Room A340. The title of his talk is "Origin of the Tibetan Plateau as Viewed from Eastern Tibet."

Burchfiel, a Distinguished Lecturer sponsored by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), is an expert in the areas of structural geology and plate tectonics. He will be speaking to approximately 25 geological societies and universities while on tour for the AAPG.
